Welcome to Year Five
Mr Harding and Ms Dawkins
Throughout Year Five we learn about some exciting topics including ‘The Victorians’, ‘Rivers’ and ‘The Ancient Greeks.’
Over the past 2 years, we have been extremely lucky to pair up with Westminster Archives on a project around WW1. The children learn about the life of a soldier through a range of sources. The fantastic project involves trips to Westminster Abbey, WW1 memorials and many workshops in class. The children become fully immersed in the activities and show their maturity and empathy with the difficult topics broached through the project.
In the spring term, we also take a trip to Sayers Croft for 3 days. This residential trip allows the children to apply their investigative skills to a river study, complete some pond dipping, build shelters in a forest, participate in orienteering activities and build a campfire. The trip fosters team spirit and the children always come back full of enthusiasm and tales of their trip!
During our Victorians topic we visit the Ragged School in Mile End to experience what life would have been like for Victorian children. This hands-on learning experience allows the children to get a first-hand experience which they will remember.
Homework is sent out every Wednesday and is expected to be back in school the following Monday. ChitChat emails will be sent weekly to parents to update them of any extra information or special events going on in school.
