Welcome to Year Four!
Mr Oxley and Mr Pearman
In Year Four, we aim to create a safe, stimulating and positive learning environment to encourage the children to become confident, independent learners.
During Year Four, we cover a range of exciting topics which are delivered using a cross-curricular approach. Beginning with Rivers and Natural Disasters, the children explore the history of the Thames, including a ‘hands on’ trip to the foreshore of the Thames where the children get an opportunity to collect and examine a range of washed up artefacts.
The Egyptians come to life in Year Four during the Spring term, when we cover a variety of cross-curricular work related to the Egyptian period. In the summer term, we explore the world of Anglo Saxons, a topic which is always thoroughly enjoyed.
In Year Four, we also go on our first residential trip. This trip is eagerly anticipated each year and never fails to excite and delight the children. Walsingham is truly a wonderful place, and the children experience the life of a pilgrim during the Tudor period.
Science is taught in a variety of ways including practical investigations, child-led activities and through the use of the interactive whiteboard. Topics include habitats, electricity, the digestive system, sound, and states of matter.
The children also have one hour a week with our PE specialist to enrich their physical development, and in line with the National Curriculum, they have weekly swimming lessons.
